My recent job search reminded me how important it is to have a fresh and broad professional network. After I started my new job, I set up a recurring daily task to reach out to one professional contact. I use this time to set up lunches or coffees with people I have not talked to in a while, forward along a relevant article to a contact, or, on lazy days, “like” the LinkedIn status of a few of my contacts. I keep a spreadsheet of the contacts I want to stay in touch with and I try to add a few new names to it each month.
